We work extremely hard to ensure that we treat the whole patient, which means that we care deeply not just about correcting a significant oral health problem, but also about promoting good oral health care at home. The American Dental Association has identified nine types of foods as the most damaging to our teeth. These foods promote acid-producing bacteria, break down enamel, and/or can lead to decay and disease if not used in moderation.
Number Seven: Ice
Ice obviously plays an important role in keeping drinks cool and for many, it’s a fun distraction, as well. However, chewing on ice can cause damage to your teeth if everything aligns just right. Many dental emergencies are caused by ice, and the habit can even end up destroying some of your enamel. In the end, chewing on ice doesn’t offer enough benefits for the risk that it poses to your dental health. It’s best to stop the habit before it becomes a problem.
