Bread is one of the most enjoyed foods that people eat around the globe. Many areas of the world, such as France, are known for their artisan bread and the food has been made for centuries. However, while bread might be enjoyable for millions on a daily basis, it can cause some problems in your mouth. Bread is full of starches that easily break down into sugar when they run into contact with your saliva. This sugar can accumulate over time if you don’t practice good oral hygiene. The more the sugar accumulates, the more it feeds acid-producing bacteria, which can erode the enamel of your teeth. Your best bet? Moderate your consumption of bread, make sure to rinse your mouth with a glass of water after you’re finished eating anything, and, as always, practice good oral hygiene habits such as brushing twice a day, flossing nightly, and visiting your dental hygienist for a cleaning every six months.
